"Get Your Boots On! That's the End of Rock 'n' Roll!" Rob Zombie. This album was one of the surprises of the year for me. I haven't been that interested in anything Zombie has done in a while, but this album was pretty entertaining. The chorus of "Get Your Boots On" is like his love letter to rock 'n' roll.
"Angel Fall," Texas Hippie Coalition. The Dark Side of Black is probably THC's heaviest album yet. I have to admit that I miss some of the redneck noise of Peacemaker, but I do love the darker tone of this tune.
"Spit Out the Bone," Metallica. While I like less than half of Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct, the couple of songs that I really like, I really, really like. I'll consider "Spit Out the Bone" my Christmas gift from the band -- the best thrash tune they've done in many years.
"Descent into the Maelstrom," Holy Grail. I've been hoping that Holy Grail can one day match the power and hummability of their debut Crisis in Utopia. They still haven't quite done it, but there are some great tunes on this record, including this one.
"Naughty Christmas," Lacuna Coil. OK, so this wasn't really one of my favorite songs of the year, but it was a fun choice in honor of the holiday season. Yes, the lyrics are cheese-stuffed, and yes, that effect they put on Cristina Scabbia's voice to make her sound like a kid in the verse is awful. That said, I'm still humming the chorus.
